Hi Luv2Scrap! This is a good question. This layout is designed for someone to cut an 8x8 photo into 16 squares. The end result on the page is a photo collage. Some may find it challenging to find 16 photos at this size to put on a single page. You could choose to make your page this way, although I'm pretty certain you'll love the collage effect. Good luck!

I have the Get the Picture Kit from My Family My Joy and I don't understand what to do with the second spread, page two. The instructions say to "cut the 8"x8" photo into sixteen 2"x2" squares." Do they mean rather than putting sixteen different pictures on the page, only have one large one printed and cut that one up? Does this make any sense? Thanks!

Hi Amanda,

The scrapbooking and cardmaking kits are exclusive to Memory Keeping Collection. Lisa Bearnson actually chose the pieces herself. You are actually saving money by buying the kit, because it would cost you more to purchase all of the components separately than simply purchasing the all-inclusive kit.

Hi Scrappygal,

I'm new to scrapbooking myself, but I find that it really depends on how many photos you have in a spread and how busy the page is. If I have alot of photos (say 5-6), I tend to use only 1 journaling block. But, if I have one hero photo, I use a lot of the space for journaling/ embellishments. Not sure what others think??

hi fellow scrappers,

so I read all the time about journaling especially on lisa bearnson's blog and stuff. I don't know how to balance journaling with photos and all the other embellishments. how much do you think is good for 1 spread?
Thanks,

Love all your ideas Michelle!

Cathy and Scraphappy10 - another idea for photo cropping... cut a few strips of paper and place them on the edges of your photo so you can only see the area of the photo you want to use while "cropping" out the part you don't want. This will allow you to "crop" the photo and decide how you want it cut before you actually cut anything. Cropping is merely cutting down to the size you'd like.

Many photo programs will allow you to crop photos on the computer as well. In this case you can create a duplicate photo so you have your original and a copy, cropping the copy.

Welcome to the happiness of scrapbooking!

In regards to making your photo's look great, there a few ways to go about this.

1. Take in consideration how you are taking the actual photo. Use your camera's view finder as a virtual cropping tool.

2. Get down and take photo's of your subject at different levels. This gives you a new perspective and might inspire in ways that you never though possible. Don't just take a photo looking down, play with natural light or place your subject near an interesting or colorful feature.

3.Photo shop at home before printing the photo's. most computers come with a basic program that allows you to brighten, sharpen and crop your shots. be careful in cropping too much off the top as some photo labs tend to crop a little more than you wish for.

4.When working with older photos. You know...the ones you keep in a box in your closet, or under the bed. Try choosing the clearest and sharpest photos of the bunch. Sometimes it's fun to include a back ground on a photo that shows some hideous orange retro carpet or some forgotten landmark, but try not to deter from your main focal point. If the photo's are really old and starting to discolor, have them scanned into your computer and photo shop as would normally do.

5. Try to catch candid shots. Sometimes those are what makes a page most interesting as apposed to the "cheesy" or "dead pan" grin.

Hope this helps!

I'm new to Scrapbooking and I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas on how to crop photos in a unique way without ruining the photo? I've seen some really cool scrapbooking pages in magazines but I don't know how they got their pictures to look so great....any ideas?
